All Attendees & Potential Candidates
Joining Instructions – Super Recogniser Selection & Initial Training Course
1. Location & Timings
The course will be held in London. The course will run from Monday 7th October to Friday 11th October 2019 (inclusive) from 10am to 5pm each day.
2. Eligibility to Attend
All students must have completed all on-line Super Recogniser testing at the University of Greenwich and sent them to SRI Ltd. (See SRI website for link to test). A good command of the English language is essential.
3. Aim & Objectives
The aim of the course is to qualify Super Recognisers to the standard, where they can apply to be Licentiates of the Association of Super Recognisers. The objectives of the course are as follows:
· Where required, to complete face to face testing.
· To enhance proven Super Recognisers with behavioural detection training.
· To ensure students have a knowledge of legal, evidential & data protection issues relating to Super Recognisers.
· To brief Super Recognisers on current threats and crime trends.
· To train Super Recognisers in operational tactics.
· To test these abilities by realistic exercises.
4. Format of Course / Instructors
The course will be mainly classroom based, although some exercises will take place in public spaces. There will be a short test to ensure understanding of legal, evidential and data protection issues, you will be provided with all information. The instructors include founder members of the Scotland Yard Super Recogniser Unit, Dr Josh Davis (the academic expert on SRs) and Dr Craig Donald, an international expert on behavioural analysis. All are, of course, subject to availability.
5. Dress & Equipment
The dress for the course is smart casual. We will travel to nearby venues to complete exercises (non-physical!) so footwear should be suitable for walking. Students should bring a lap top for face to face testing (the programme can be checked on Day 1 as testing is usually midweek).
The cost of the course is £500 + VAT (20%) a total of £600, which must be paid six weeks prior to commencement (26 Aug) to guarantee a place. Bank account details for money transfer are at Annex A and please put your name as the reference. Students are expected to pay for their own travel and accommodation (if required). Meals and drinks can be purchased at nearby shops. Free tea and coffee is provided on arrival. It is advised to book accommodation at hotels such as Premier Inn, Travelodge or Ibis outside central London (for example Croydon), where costs are significantly less and public transport to London is available.
7. Employment Opportunities & Pay
Super Recognisers currently receive around £150 per day depending on role and supervisors may receive more. Please be aware that completion of this course gives no guarantee of employment or work from SRI – this is dependent on contracts and new operations, but Police Forces in UK and Germany currently use SRs and there is worldwide interest in establishing units. Several private companies also employ Super Recognisers. It should be noted that there is no Security Industry Authority (SIA) input on the course. Some Super Recogniser roles (patrols, live CCTV viewing etc) will require an SIA licence (UK only), but we are looking for SRs for deployment in several roles. SRI may be able to obtain SIA courses at discounted rates. If working with SRI, Super Recognisers must be vetted to BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard). Several companies can offer this service at little cost.
8. Confirming a Place
Whilst you have sent in your details, we require information on all students. To book a place, complete the attached form (Annex B) and send to me with a scan of proof of identification (for example, a passport) and proof of address (utility bill less than three months old). If SIA authorised, also send a scan of your licence. To confirm your place, I must have this form, with the scanned documents, by Monday 9th September 2019. Any cancellations within four weeks of the course start date incur a fee of 20% of the cost of the course. If within seven days, the cancellation fee is 40% of the cost.
The use of Super Recognisers is growing rapidly in the private sector in this country and abroad. I look forward to seeing you on the course working with you in the future.
